Sounds I like
Ghar Aaja Pardesi
my dad sent me this in a text some time back and I didn't pay much attention. The part at 1:50 is pretty and roughly translates to "This village's uneducated soil cannot read your letter. This soil if you come and kiss, will make this earth's heart happy. Understood that you have some dreams but we are your own. Forgetful you, your memory haunts us." My dad is a romantic as you can probably tell by now.
R U Mine ~ Arctic Monkeys
current morning alarm. Turner is pretty sassy (check out his KEXP session on youtube) and I think this song captures his energy
Lotus Flower ~ Radiohead
THROWBACK! Was either this or high and dry. I think this shows Thom Yorke is just such a fricking rockstar!
Song For Zula ~ Phosphorescent
live music is soooo much better than studio versions (except for some pink floyd maybe...)
Youth ~ Daughter
almost EVERY single song by this band is wayyy too good. I'm so excited that they're here in October.
Hollow Years ~ Dream Theater
This one is timeless. Don't miss the solo startiing at about 4:50, it will change your life
TIMC's episode about plants
does photosynthesis rely on quantum mechanics? Do bonsai trees have a height complex?
Kabira
My favorite recent hindi song. A rough translation of my favorite part (the beginning) would be "What kind of selfishness is this of yours? You can't pick sun or shade. What kind of selfishness is this of yours? (Your) feet don't rest anywhere. You've become your own god, you swam seven seas. Yet (your) thoughts are dry, Why?"
TIMC: Alfred Russel Wallace
The comment about Weismann's work (around 7:30) is funnier than anything I've ever heard
Brian Cox: Why we need the explorers
Cox is one of my favorite recent (to me) figures for his science communication skills. Mainly because the "fascinating" aspect of science is one I find hard to express with my non-science peers and he does a great job of it. His reading of Carl Sagan's Pale Blue Dot (roughly at 13:34 here) is great!
